Blood Run Creek
Blood Run Creek Outdoors is a simple business…based on a lifelong hobby that’s been a passion. I grew up playing in the woods…along (and in!) Blood Run Creek. My family has farmed this land since the late 1800’s. The local oral tradition was that there were people killed during an old battle along the banks of Blood Run Creek near Siler City NC. Later in life I discovered this was a fight that happened during the latter days of the American Revolution. The best current information is that recent british recruits were ambushed by american patriots and the blood from the battle ran into the creek…hence the name. Early maps show the creek as “Bloody Creek” with it later turning into blood run. This story captivated me as a child and was one of the main reasons I begged for a metal detector as a kid in the early 70’s.
My first metal detector was an old Ray Jefferson (Sears brand) detector…no discrimination. You had to dig it all! …and I did. Discouraging at times with all the nails and iron in the ground. However, the passion for treasure hunting had taken hold! So…on and off over the decades I’ve continued the marvelous hobby/sport of metal detecting. Technology has improved with the times and the thrill of finding something old and cool is as fresh as it was the first time!
